KST A to Z

Smoking (quitting)

Patricia Coughlin-Baitinger, DC

Berwyn, Pennsylvania

A 23-year-old patient is complaining of pain in his knees and low back. The pain in his knees is more pronounced while standing all day as a chef. He also expresses the desire to quit smoking.

During the first few visits, the OD focuses on cranial, lumbar, and sacral subluxations. He has a marked decrease in pain in his low back and knees. On the fourth visit, the OD takes me to his knees, and an emotional component of feeling "less than" or "unworthy and confused," around age 21 comes up. I adjust as he thinks of those emotions.

Knee pattern is released, then L2 and 3. After the session, the young man tells me that he first started smoking when he was trying to decide if he would continue going to college.

The next visit, his knee pain was gone, and the OD took me to the habit pattern. He weaned himself off of cigarettes and now has NO desire to smoke! It's been about 1.5 months since his last cigarette, and he feels great.
