How Koren Specific Technique (KST) Is Practiced
When the nervous system is able to converse with the practitioner…we should be able to make a more correct diagnosis.
DD Palmer, 1914
KST is a quick protocol that may be used to locate and release chronic and acute physical and emotional stress, blockages, imbalances, interferences, subluxations and other components that could interfere with optimal function.
The Three Cs
KST is practiced using the three Cs: challenge, check and correct. Here is how you do it:
First, the body or body/mind is questioned or challenged. The body responds to physical, verbal or mental challenges.
Check how the body responded to the challenge using binary biofeedback.
Correct or address the area of stress/subluxation/distortion/blockage, etc.
What questions do we ask?
The questions asked depend on what we, the practitioner, wish to discover. Different professionals ask different questions. We are only limited by the questions we ask.
KST practitioners often follow a flowchart or protocol to quickly locate the stress/interference, etc.
Searching for the causes
KST shares the approach of vitalistic healing arts such as classical osteopathy, classical chiropractic, biological dentistry, homeopathy, acupuncture, Indian (Ayurveda) and Traditional Chinese Medicine among others. The assumption is that the body is wise and functions best when interferences with optimal function are removed or corrected.
We search for the stresses in our body caused by thoughts, trauma and toxins.
One of our discoveries is that patients may need to be placed in different physical and emotional postures to reveal areas of stress, dysfunction, dis-coordination and disharmony.
The goal of the KST practitioner is to locate hidden stresses, those secret places where physical and emotional stress resides and sabotages our perfect function.
Humility – Respecting the Wisdom of The Body
Using biofeedback, "listening to the body," and "following the OD" are all synonymous terms – a KST practitioner humbles himself before the wisdom of the body.
Healing is often non-linear; the body's wisdom will send you to many places in the order it wishes to be addressed. It may not be fully intellectually understood; thus, it is important for the KST practitioner to remain open-minded and keep any preconceived ideas or theoretical assumptions in the background.
KST is not an anti-intellectual discipline. On the contrary, the more the practitioner knows about healing arts and systems and disciplines, the better the questions that may be asked.
Ultimately, a KST practitioner is a detective searching out the hidden sources of dis-ease within the patient.
Simply stated, the purpose of the Koren Specific Technique (KST) is to locate and release the deep-seated stresses that people live with, which are undermining their health.
Care is tailored to the unique needs of the individual. KST is not a "cookbook" or a one-size-fits-all approach. The results speak for themselves – as you'll read herein.
