“Body, What Do You Need?”, The Question That Changes Everything

The KST Edge | Week 16 Issue 16

Short one today. But sit with it. Every technique in chiropractic has a starting point. A first question the practitioner asks, either out loud or implicitly, that shapes every clinical decision after it. The motion palpation approach starts with: “What’s stuck?” The scan-based approach starts with: “What does the machine show?” The protocol-based approach starts with: “What does the diagnosis tell me to do?” KST starts with: “Body, what do you need?” That’s it. That’s the whole edge. Right there in five words. Every other starting question puts the Educated mind in charge. What’s stuck?, my hands decide. What does the machine show?, the technology decides. What does the diagnosis say?, the textbook decides. “Body, what do you need?”, Innate decides. This is what Stephenson was pointing to with Principle #8: the amount of intelligence for any given amount of matter is 100%. Not 80%. Not “enough to handle the simple stuff.” One hundred percent. And Principle #22 echoes it: there is 100% of Innate Intelligence in every living thing. Every patient who walks through your door has 100% of the intelligence needed to know exactly what’s wrong, where the priority is, and what to do about it. They don’t have 100% of the expression, that’s why they need you, but the intelligence is all there. All of it. |
Your job isn’t to be smarter than the body. Your job is to be humble enough to ask and skilled enough to listen. Think about how radical this is. In a healthcare world that is built on the practitioner being the expert, KST says: the body is the expert. You’re just the translator. Your Educated mind has spent years training to be the authority. KST asks you to surrender that authority to something far more intelligent than you will ever be. And here’s the paradox that will take your whole career to fully appreciate: the moment you stop trying to be the expert is the moment your patients start treating you like one. Because when you ask the body and follow its lead, your results improve. Your specificity improves. Your confidence improves. Patients feel the difference between a chiropractor who’s guessing and one who’s listening. They might not be able to articulate it, but they feel it. And they tell their friends. The entire flow chart, both pages, every branch, every category from “Something to Adjust” to “Quantum Level Problem”, is simply a systematic expansion of this one question. It’s the question broken into pathways that your body can respond to. It’s “Body, what do you need?” asked in a thousand specific ways. And every time you pick up the flow chart, that’s what you’re really doing. You’re asking. And Innate is answering. Getting specific starts with getting humble. And humility starts with five words. “Body, what do you need?” This week’s challenge: Before you touch anyone this week, a practice patient, a classmate, even yourself, pause. Take one breath. And silently ask: Body, what do you need? Not “what do I think is wrong.” Not “what did the last scan show.” Not “what protocol should I run.” Just: what do you need? Then listen. That pause will change more about your practice than any seminar, any textbook, any technique. It’s the beginning of everything. |
